Working With Me

For over 35 years, Rockhaven Counselling and Therapy has offered a discreet and sensitive approach, providing the opportunity to talk confidentially in a safe environment with an experienced practitioner.

I have a holistic approach to counselling, life coaching, mentoring and supervision that involves various styles including person-centred, integrative, adventure and play therapy (CBT if required).

Creative approaches are also available for individuals, couples, families, and groups.

An example of my work that is now in the public domain would be that of a client who came to me having been traumatised by two years of torture and was unable to find the words to talk about their experiences. I offered creative ways for them to express past events and their feelings, which included talking about what they’d seen on television, times of meditation, sharing a joke, working with a sand tray etc. After some months, that also included powerful silences, they started to write down what was really concerning them.

Two years later, their story was published as ‘Time to Tell’, published by Rockhaven Books.

Client Testimonials

"Roger never ceases to ensure best practice for himself and those around him, does not shy away from either personal or professional development, and is remarkably open to reviewing his practice and sharing from the depth of his experience, and learning from others around him… With every encounter with Roger, I have experienced that sense of safety within him as a therapist and supervisor, and been challenged by his gift of working ‘on the edge’ and with the unconventional…His work as a therapist stands him head and shoulders above so many of us in terms of his courage to work with those who have become disengaged and distanced in life, and his willingness and ability to utilise his own creativity to push the therapeutic envelope."

Dr E. FBACP

"Roger has brought uniqueness to the counselling profession. That uniqueness reflects his acceptance of diversity, not to integrate but to include, not to make room for but to actively encourage, and in this encouragement, growth has naturally occurred."

Mrs R Z. MBACP

‘Because Roger works outside ‘normal’ practice in things like adventure therapy, he is incredibly boundaried - it is part of his philosophy as a counsellor, supervisor, and trainer…His profound dyslexia meant he couldn’t fit into school, but because he has come from not being the ‘norm’, he can offer not being the norm. His dyslexia has become his enablement.’ quote from "The Power of Empathy".
